Associated Optical Demo Day – 18th October 2017

Free
Discover how eSight Eyewear is giving back independence to people with sight loss.
Brian Casey  is the first manin Europe to not only have tested new breakthrough technology eSight eyewear, buthaveit work. Associated Optical who are the UK distributors are running open days across the UK to enable this eyewear to be available to as many people as needed.
The next open day will be at Opensight, October 18th
This is a real opportunity to spend time with an eSight advocate who will spend time with clientsto assess their suitability for eSight eyewear.
This is done by reviewing their sight befor and while using the electronic glasses. There will be a chance to discover how eSight eyewear works and use them in a numberof activities like watching TV, reading, using a computer and general mobility skills.
Many people who have attended previous clinics have already experienced the immediate impact these glasses have on their lives, like Brian Casey who saw his wife for the first time in 27 years as well as seeing details and an explosion of colour.
“It was an explosion of colours. It was like being in a sweet shop as a kid, trying to see it all, experience it all, taste it all, remember it all. – I hadn’t realised just how much I’d forgotten or still missed.” – Brian Casey describing his moment when he tried eSight eyewear for the first time!
What’s so special about eSight?
The headset is visor like in appearance and is like a prescription frame via a pair of elastic, magnetic bands. On the front is a 1080p camera that grabs a live video feed of everything in sight, pipes it down to a processing unit that tucks into a pocket or purse and then sends it back to a pair of OLED screens.
The person wearing the headset sees full colour video images clearly, with no lag time, and can zoom in.
You can book an hour appointment at Opensight on 18th October by calling Associated Optical direct on 01628 600 410

Family Event – Saturday 20th May 2017

At  Staunton Country Park

Middle Park Way, Havant PO95HB

Open Sight and the Specialist Teachers Advisers, Visual Impairment Team, are pleased to invite you to a Family Event at Staunton Country Park.

The event is open to children aged 0-16 with a visual impairment and if there are enough spaces available, their siblings are very welcome too.

During the morning, you will have an exciting opportunity to join the park staff for an animal and sensory session at the farm. We will all get together for a picnic lunch. After lunch you may like to continue to enjoy everything the farm has to offer. You will have ample time to visit the adjoining country park where you can explore the many acres of parkland walks in the afternoon.

The farm is home with many different animals ranging from the everyday farm animal, like pigs, sheep, Shetland ponies, a shire horse and chickens to a selection of other animals such as llamas, a Poitou donkey, alpacas and a herd of Longhorn cattle.

There are some real characters at the farm, loved and visited time and time again. There’s KT, a Tamworth pig, brought here when she was just a tiny piglet and was raised in the Rabbit House. There’s also a shy barn owl, Amber, who you can see flying around her cage throughout the day. Make sure you go into the Children’s Paddock and check out the cheeky Bagot goats who love to take your food.

The Sensory Garden has an ambience all of its own. Readily accessible it’s an area to relax and contemplate in. The plants to engage visitors await discovery. Wind chimes add further dimensions to this charming garden.

Great for families and children, planted in 2002, the Golden Jubilee Maze creates fun and adventure, with twists and turns, open and locked gates to reach the middle. See if you can make it, but don’t forget once you’ve made it to the middle, can you remember the way out? Located behind the glasshouses, the maze is a great place to spend time with the family.

George’s Play Barn is a new addition to the farm – somewhere for the children to play, whatever the weather’s doing outside!

Visit our Gothic Barn in the farmyard and let the kids loose. There’s a soft play area for the younger ones and a climbing frame with slides, rope bridges and cargo nets for older, more energetic children.

We are asking that each family make a £10 donation towards the cost of the activities and after booking we will provide you with all the joining information for the day, including where to meet, what to wear and what to bring.

If you have any questions please contact Jenny Collins,

Family Support Coordinator,  023 8064 6382
