Schools and Colleges

Do you know that 12% of children enter full time education with an undetected sight problem?

At Open Sight we recognise the importance of informing and educating everyone from young children to adults about looking after their eyes.

We provide the following services to schools and colleges across Hampshire:

  • Talks in Education

We provide presentations to help students learn how to take care of their eyes and become aware of how sight loss affects people in their communities. We not only produce information but  also organise games to demonstrate sight loss. It’s a lot of fun and feedback has been very positive from schools.

“Thank you so much for your hard work on the morning. It was a great success that has left the children with a better awareness about visual impairment and a desire to learn and understand more. We can build from here and continue to develop their appreciation and skills in including children with VI at Kings Copse.” – R Hicks, Kings Copse School

  • Keeping Your Eyes Right

We have visited lots of community groups across Hampshire informing people about sight loss, eye health and care and how visual impairment affects people. We would be more than happy to come to your group or club!

  • Blind Sports Taster Sessions

Open Sight run Blind Sports Taster Sessions for schools and colleges in the Hampshire area. Children get the chance to experience many different types of blind sports including Football, Archery, Rock Climbing, Judo and Cricket all under the guidance of elite athletes and qualified blind coaches.  Through these sessions young people gain a wider understanding and appreciation of the challenges experienced by visually impaired people. Click here for more information on Open Sight Blind Sports Taster Sessions.
