Our head office in Eastleigh has an equipment centre which you are welcome to visit to try out some of the equipment available to support those with, or at risk of sight loss. When you visit the centre, one of our advisors will be on hand to offer independent advice and information
The Equipment Centre has an extensive range of low vision and everyday equipment including hand held and digital magnifiers, TV Eye and CCTV, text to speech Clear Reader; writing aids; kitchen equipment; talking clocks and watches; lighting; boom boxes and bump ons.
We are also the only equipment centre in Hampshire able to provide an OrCam My Eye demonstration. OrCam My Eye is a revolutionary device which clips on to the arm of a pair of glasses. It can read text simply by pointing at it. It can also recognise products and people’s faces. We are also able to demonstrate the text to speech Prodgi to Humanware.
Our suppliers include Optima; Optelec; Enhanced Vision; Sight and Sound; Pamtrad; Professional Vision; Associated Optical Humanware; RNIB; Cobolt; Prodigy; and Orcam.
Any products that we do not currently hold can be ordered for you.

Equipment and Information Days
Open Sight’s Equipment and Information Days run several times a year and are a great opportunity to come along and look at different magnification and daily living equipment available, as well as well as find out about other services available to you in your local area.
Open Sight staff will be on hand to demonstrate equipment and give advice on the day, including top tips on how to manage your sight loss. They will also be able to carry out a low vision assessment if requested.

Equipment demonstrations at community groups
Our demonstrators also visit community groups and social clubs to raise awareness of sight loss and demonstrate and sell a range of low vision and daily living equipment. (To cover costs, community groups are asked to pay the mileage expenses of our demonstrators, currently 45p per mile)
